11:54 am - Busy Low-Fly day
I have been getting withdrawal symptoms since my last low-fly visit, so after looking at the weather forcast and seeing if anyone else would be out, I booked Tuesday off and went out to Wales. We climbed one hill and stayed until lunchtime, when the light get's a bit dodgy, and then descended and drover and climbed up to a second location. As always, planes came over us while we were trying to kill ourselves by climbing in the midday sun, but they came around again later.

I appear to have had my most enjoyable lowfly day so far.

1:45 pm - Wales and Planes
Well, Jerry made a rapid recovery, so we did manage to get out to our holiday on the Monday afternoon. He's as right as rain, I'm pleased to report.

Seeing as we were staying only 13 minutes drive from my usual low-fly spot, it would have been rude not to spend 3 days up there taking some snaps. Mrs.M amused herself with walking, reading and visiting the seaside while I was perched on various hills.

9:27 am - Big Bang Theory
Many moons ago, the venerable [info]qb_fox  mentioned a TV show that was about to hit our screens called Big Bang Theory.

I watched the first episode, and was less than impressed.

On the last 2 Thursday evenings, I've watched my usual episodes of My Name Is Earl, and then watched the episodes of Big Bang Theory that followed.

I don't know if my perspective has changed, or if the show has got better, but I must admit that they appeared to be much better than that first episode that I watched.

4:45 pm - They're back
Bought some music, today.  I still had some vouchers left over from Christmas that I hadn't spent, and did so today.

Talk about 2 ends of the spectrum.  My first purchase was the re-mastered version of the first Crosby, Stills and Nash album.  I've had a *ahem* copy of this for a good while, and thought I'd better buy it.  It also had some bonus tracks, which was nice.  This purchase was also inspired by the performance of theirs that I'd watched earlier this week.

At the other end of the spectrum, I bought Metallica's Death Magnetic album.  I used to like Metallica, but they went a bit crap, and then I read on Mike Portnoys prog-blog that they were back on form.  He's not wrong.  Some serious riffage on that album, and they are, indeed, BACK.

9:10 pm - Crosby & Nash
I've just spent half an hour watching the above perform on BBC Four.

For thirty minutes, I was completely mesmerized by their performance.  Actually, there wasn't really any "performance" as such, they just sat, two voices and acoustic guitars, and sang.  They seemed to be deciding what songs to play as they were going along, and they were just enjoying themselves so much.

I really enjoy this stripped down type of playing, which is in complete contrast to some of the over-the-top prog/rock/metal stuff that I listen to, but I find watching/listening to stuff like this quite inspiring, and just for a while, makes me think that I'd like to be performing again.  In fact, if I thought I was a good enough player, and had a voice of any kind (granted, nobody has really heard it so can't tell me), an acoustic duo setup would probably drag me out again.

4:34 pm - Twitter no more
I have deleted my Twitter account.

I tried it for a week, and am pretty underwhelmed by it.  It's just another time-waster, in my humble opinion.

For some strange reason, I seem to have decided that Twittering seems like a good idea.  Follow me if you want.  I am, unsurprisingly, "ianmyatt" but don't expect anything too exciting.

9:59 am - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...
...to all the people that read the stuff that I don't post anymore.

Perhaps 2009 will see my output increase, but I doubt it.  Having said that, rest assured that I will continue to read YOUR posts on a regular basis.

All the best

11:53 am - Low Flying again
I've been pointing cameras at plane again.  Had a very nice day in the hills on Friday.  All Hawks, apart from one Hercules which lumbered around the corner just I has about to leave.  It's appearence caused me to set a new world record for unpacking a rucksack.  It went over quite high, and I didn't have chance to set the correct shutter speed, so the props are frozen.

This is the first chance I've had to point my new lens at any aircraft (Nikon AF300mm F4), and am very pleased with the results.

7:44 pm - The Great Gig In The Sky
I was saddened to hear of this today.

His music, through his band Pink Floyd, have taken up a huge amount of my lifetimes listening, and will continue to do so.

Goodbye Richard.

No to the first question because the answer to the second question is also no.

11:34 am - Back From Barmouth
Been on hols, staying just outside Barmouth in a converted barn. Nice location, with a good view and chickens and horses.

Unfortunately, it rained every day except for the day we arrived, and this stopped us from doing lots of things that we had planned. In fact, weather-wise, it was probably the worst week we've had in Wales. Quite frustrating being only 25 mins drive from my usual low-fly photography location and not being able to go.

3:33 pm - More Low-fly fun
Spent another day in the Cadair pass waiting for, and photographing planes.  This is my fourth trip and the first time that I've had passes from aircraft that have propellers.  I was particularly chuffed to get my first Hercules (see below) in the tricky lighting.

11:25 am - How to spend your 40th birthday.
Get up at "Oh Christ!"-hundred hours.  Drive to Wales, climb up a hill.  Wait for low-flying, noisey planes and take pictures of them.  Get a bit sunburnt.

11:04 pm - ....and then I remembered why
On Tuesday I got my car serviced, and had arranged a courtesy car so that I could get painlessly (ie-without having to resort to that diabolical facility known as public transport) from the garage, to work, and then back again.

Whilst traveling to work, I listened to the radio, something that I hardly ever do.  I normally have my own choice of music, but I was amused by Terry Wogan during the short trip, and thought  "I can't understand why I don't listen to radio in the car".

However, on my way home, I was reminded "why" in no uncertain terms.

Chris Evans.

What a fucking arsehole that man is!  He sounded like a 6 year old that had consumed far too many E-numbers, literally shouting every fucking word.  It felt like he was on the back seat, trying to damage my eardrums.  So I did what any sane human being would do.

Switched the fucker off.
